Look, your realtor hasn’t heard anything, or they would have contacted you. You may need to consider withdrawing your offer and continuing to look. I would skip short sales.

yes you can back out , tell them you have your eye on something else now. you are free until you sign a contract.

as long as you haven’t signed any papers or put down any money yes you can say no. if you put down money then you can still say no but you will loose the down payment? you can say no until the final papers are singed at the mortaguage company or bank for the loan.

Your offer to purchase should have had an expiration date/time on it – usually 24 hours max, but your agent might have made it a little longer because it was s short sale. Look at the offer to purchase that you signed and submitted to the seller and see if it has already expired, which would mean that are free to look and put in offers on other homes.
