    no you don’t need an extension. if you buy it this year you will claim it on the taxes for 2009, which are the ones you will file next year. you can’t claim it on the 2008 taxes.

    No, you don’t need an extension. Any deductions and credits from the home purchase will be entered on your 2009 taxes.

    You can file tomorrow then when you finalize paper work and move in your new house, then you can amend your 2008 to receive your credit and the $8000 this year.
