Purchasing a home is not a problem but maintaining your green card status may be a problem and acquiring a loan may also be a problem.

You do not have to be a US citizen to buy property here. You are treated like a US citizen. Only thing you cannot do is vote. I am sure you have to reside in the US for a certain period of time to keep you visa valid
