A good rule of thumb is a week’s salary should cover rent/mortgage.

Mortgage companies like to see no more than 33%, but I’d say more than 50% would really make life rough.

It shouldn’t be more than 35% if you are married and have your family with you there.
If bachelor, you should share an appartment and percentage should be 25% only.
