The D.W.P have informed me their deducting £36 (p.w!) for my council house arrears of £500.Can they?

local housing allowance

I received a letter from them (the D.W.P) today explaining that they are deducting this money on behalf of the local council out of my Disability Living Allowance. Due to other debts I can only afford about £5 per week at the most….would they not accept this or is it non negotiable? I realise these arrears must be paid to the council but there is no way I can afford £36 being taken out of my benefit each week .The letter says it takes effect in two weeks time. What can I do?

You can sell stuff, or find a way to earn some money. You may be “disabled”, but clearly you have a lucid mind and can surf the web, so there ARE things you could do to earn a living. (Be careful, don’t get scammed!)

They can and will deduct money from your benefit if you have unpaid debts to another branch of the government…and eventually they can and will evict you if you don’t pay, just as they evict squatters (eventually).

You need to stop believing that £500 is very much money! Just find a way to raise it and pay it off, and the same goes for your “other” debts…

    Best wishes.
