Housing Benefit do I need to provide bank statements?

Hi all, I am on income support and am due to claim housing benefit. What proof of income do I need I am worried as I throw my bank statements (no money whats the point keeping them!). Will I definately need to get them or will they accept a benefits letter from dwp?

    Call your bank and have them send you the last 3-6 months of statements.
