Closing a Uk business?

local housing allowance

I had a shop in England for many years. Last year my lease expired and my landlord sold the land my shop was on for housing development.

The shop has been demolished and the land is a building site now.

I came to Laos last year for a break to get over it all but have now become a Buddhist monk.

As all monks here, I live on handouts from the local population.

I now never intend to return to England again so my question is what do I do about officially closing the business from here? All the business accounts are in England at a friends house but he would have no idea what to give to HMRC as they are in amongst lots of other paperwork.

There will be no tax due for the last year as I had already more or less closed things down ages ago and made well under the tax allowance.

I have no property or income in the UK and no reason to return.

Any suggestions?

Paul
In answer to the first reply (tizhimi) I was a sole trader.
As a reply to suerye: I can’t afford to fly back to Uk to do it. Is there no time limit or suchlike after which I will be considered ‘closed’? I have no way of earning money to return to UK (us monks don’t earn money). Can I not write to HMRC explaining the situation? Paul

    very easy.

Go on “companies house” website if it was a ltd company, get the address and put it in writing all the details. there may be a form but I’m not sure where. If you were a sole trader you just need to contact the HMRC in writing and declare yourself as as being abroad and not working.

You will need to produce final accounts and complete a self assessment for the year ended 5/4/08. This will show date of cessation of the business and enable HMRC to close your records.
