can i claim for housing benefit/council tax benefit/ any other benefit before i move into a house and im over 25? I want to move into a single house or bedsit and get benefit before I move in so i can pay the rent. Is there anything I can get to get more money? Or anything that will stop me getting more?

Benefits are paid in arrears so the answer is no. You can not get a loan for rent/deposit for housing either… Just find a good landlord that accepts DSS customers and understands how the benefit system works. Most will want a deposit. Local authority housing (Council) is the best way forward, although most are housing associations now, they still act like the old system. Hope this helps.

As already mentioned benefits are paid in arrears so you have to find the home and landlord willing to take you on and then get y our application in.

As for your question ‘is there anything I can get to get more money’ what about a job?

housing and council tax benefit is paid 4 wks in arrears so u cannot get it in advance tho u can apply before u move in . if ur on income support/jobseekers then u can apply for an interest free social fund loan to cover the expenses in advance then they will take it back from u bit by bit
